Modern techniques assisting Morley Archives Group

A great result today at our Monday afternoon session. We were able to engineer a method to archive old and sometimes fragile documents and books using a desk top Web cam system. The camera is a HD Web Cam mounted on a spring arm with build in led light and auto-focus. It plugs into the USB port of a computer and is a plug and play, the built in windows webcam app work without any setting up. 

Clive McManus of Morley Archives said it was just what they needed, it would save a great deal of money by not having to contract the copying out to external companies and saves the already fragile and damaged books from more wear and tear.

Our first session of 2023

 A great first session of the year, a couple of new members and help and discussions:

How to use WhatsApp on the PC via the web link, Using What 3 Words and linking it to messages in case of an emergency. Understanding the account (hotmail, icloud and gmail) and how to manage them on the iPhone. Connecting a Samsung phone to the PC to enable the transfer and backup of photos.

 

 I have managed to create my first blog.  Happy New Year to all of our members.

All of it has become more user-friendly and you do not need to know how it all works but how to use it for yourself.  We are a small community group set up in Morley to help local residents (and others from a bit further away) solve issues they have with the Technology or Digital Device.

We meet at the Salvation Army Building every Monday at 1pm and online using zoom every Wednesday at 10.30am and Thursday at 7pm
